A month into the summer of 2013, I partook in  a type design workshop dedicated to learning Fontlab5.  The feedback  received from the workshop was encouraging. In fact, it was encouraging enough for me to continue what I had started and thus Lekea was born.

Lekea is a typeface that borrows aspects of blackletter and transitional serif typefaces to create something new and modern. Lekea can be the solution for book covers, posters and anything else your mind can create.  The font file will be available to download at lekeatype.com

Mirrors is a subscription based literary journal that features the voice of the street via short stories, poetry and, at times, essays. The black and white photography  used in the magazine are grainy/gritty to mirror the content of the literary pieces.  Soft colors are used as accents and denote the  different sections of the magazine.

Headlines are hand done and and are influenced by street art.  The words street, illustrative, minimal and typographic are a few choice words to describe the overall look and feel of the magazine.

Packaging

Packaging design is a way to explore and tap into different markets.  Using illustration as a tool, one can create pieces that are for children or for even more sophisticated audiences.  Colors and the actual shape of the package come into play as well.

The use of a nontraditional bottle for a hot sauce can elevate the sauce’s money value and the use of bright colors for a cereal box is eye catching for children.  Every choice is a conscience decision, done with purpose and reasoning.
